Real Ways I Use ChatGPT to Get Things Done

Not theory. Not hype. Just the small ways AI has actually improved my workflow.

ChatGPT isn’t just a cool toy for me, it’s become a tool I now use on a daily basis and an integrated part of my work life. The fact that I use it so often has also pushed me deeper into exploring the AI landscape, because I believe it's clear proof that LLMs are here to stay and a valuable tool for the future.

This post is for anyone curious how AI tools like ChatGPT can actually fit into your daily routine—especially if you’re a builder, thinker, creator, or solo entrepreneur.

I know there are more advanced use cases and integrations, but for now I like to stick to basic applications and keep things simple, without connecting it into other tools. I don’t use it to write for me, I use it to think with me.

Before we get into the details, here’s a list of the ways I currently use ChatGPT in my life:

What is ChatGPT and How People Can Use It

ChatGPT is a language model developed by OpenAI that interacts in a conversational way. According to OpenAI, it was designed to make it easy for anyone to have a helpful and intelligent conversation with an AI. It can answer follow-up questions, admit mistakes, challenge incorrect assumptions, and reject inappropriate requests.

ChatGPT is built on what’s called a large language model (LLM). These models are trained on enormous amounts of text and learn to generate human-like language. That’s why ChatGPT can help with everything from writing and translating to brainstorming or solving technical problems.

If you’re new to ChatGPT, imagine it like a supercharged chat window. You type or speak your question, and instead of giving you links like Google does, it gives you a clear and helpful answer. You can ask follow-up questions, change direction mid-conversation, or just keep digging deeper into a topic.

The interface itself is simple and looks like any modern messaging app. You type or use voice, and ChatGPT replies instantly. It feels more like talking to a helpful colleague than clicking through menus or search results.

You can use it to ask questions, get help writing or translating, generate images, break down tasks, or brainstorm new ideas. Whether you're working, learning, or just trying to stay organized, it’s flexible enough to adapt to almost anything you throw at it.

My Best Use Cases for ChatGPT

Replacing Googling With Voice Mode

I used to search for things on Google all the time. Now I just open the ChatGPT app, hold the mic button, and ask. It’s faster, more focused, and usually gives me a better summary than clicking through ten links.

  • I use voice mode to get quick answers.

  • It saves me time and cuts through the noise.

  • It’s like having a helpful assistant on hand all the time.

Daily Decision Support

From comparing laptops to figuring out travel logistics, ChatGPT makes everyday decisions easier.

  • I ask for pros and cons.

  • I compare features side by side.

  • I get help making decisions without overthinking.

Smart Shopping Assistant

When I need to buy something and I’m not sure what to choose, I ask ChatGPT for help.

  • I explain my needs and get a product profile.

  • I paste links to items I found and get comparisons.

  • I decide faster and more confidently.

Using ChatGPT for Software Help

If I hit an error in a tool or can’t figure out how to do something, I go to ChatGPT first.

  • I paste the error or explain the issue.

  • I get simple instructions or a fix.

  • I save time not digging through forums.

Thinking Through Product Strategy

When I’m trying to figure out how to position a new product or feature, ChatGPT helps me think it through.

  • I explore frameworks like SWOT, PESTEL, Blue Ocean, and Ansoff.

  • I define target users and map out use cases.

  • I check how the idea fits into the competitive space.

Validating Ideas

Some of my ideas are random, others are more serious. I use ChatGPT to quickly test if they make sense.

  • I write down the idea and get feedback on potential gaps.

  • I ask what kind of people might want it.

  • I check if there are already similar products out there.

Learning New Skills

Sometimes I need to get up to speed on something new—whether it's an AI tool, a web framework like A-Frame, or a business concept I haven't used in a while. Instead of signing up for a course or digging through YouTube videos, I ask ChatGPT to break it down for me.

  • I ask it to explain topics in plain language.

  • I can ask follow-up questions as I go.

  • It helps me get started without feeling overwhelmed.

Planning and Automating Workflows

I’ve used ChatGPT to map out everything from marketing workflows to packing orders.

  • I write out what I’m trying to do, and it fills in the gaps.

  • It helps break down tasks into steps.

  • I get suggestions for tools or automation (like using Zapier).

Practicing Communication

Sometimes I just want to practice how to say something. Whether it’s a call, an email, or even a parenting conversation.

  • I roleplay cold calls or difficult conversations.

  • I practice what to say to my kid in plain language.

  • It helps me feel more confident before real-life situations.

Translation for Communication

I often write or reply to people in other languages. ChatGPT helps me make sure it sounds right.

  • I write in English and translate it instantly.

  • I double-check tone and clarity.

  • I can communicate better without switching tools.

Content Creation (Without Delegating My Voice)

I don’t want an AI writing for me, but I do want help organizing my thoughts. ChatGPT is great for that. I also use it when I’m writing professional emails or doing outreach. It helps me get the tone right and feel more confident before I send something important.

  • It helps turn rough notes into clean outlines.

  • It suggests better wording without changing my voice.

  • It helps draft emails or responses more clearly.

  • It keeps me moving forward when I get stuck.

Design and Content Feedback

When I finish a presentation or web page, I take a screenshot and drop it into ChatGPT. It gives me honest, constructive feedback that helps me improve.

  • It tells me what’s working well.

  • It points out things I can improve.

  • It helps me make things clearer and more effective.

Generating Images for Presentations and Content

Sometimes I need a quick image to go along with a presentation, blog post, or social media idea. I use ChatGPT to create simple illustrations or placeholders. When I want something more realistic, especially photorealistic images, I’ve found that Gemini usually delivers better results.

  • I describe the image I need and let it generate something usable.

  • I use it for slides, posts, mockups, and general visual brainstorming.

  • For realistic images, I switch to Gemini because it performs better in that area.

Prototyping Creative Ideas

For side projects like Grandpa Wisecrack or Fabled Moments, ChatGPT helps me shape ideas. It’s also been useful when I’m working on naming something new or testing creative angles for storytelling.

  • I brainstorm characters or storylines.

  • I structure short scripts.

  • I explore naming options for new projects or brands.

  • I get technical help setting up tools like A-Frame or 11Labs.

  • I generate creative prompts to get unstuck.

Idea Storage and Thinking Backlog

Sometimes I just want to jot down a half-formed idea and get back to it later. ChatGPT is great for that kind of mental scratchpad.

  • I dump ideas as they come to me.

  • It helps organize or tag them into themes.

  • I can pick up the thread again anytime I’m ready.

Personal Journaling

I use ChatGPT almost like a journal. It helps me notice patterns and reflect on how I’ve been feeling.

  • I write about my day, and it helps me reflect.

  • I track sleep, mood, and stress.

  • It helps me stay consistent with daily check-ins.

Final Thoughts

This isn’t about outsourcing my brain. It’s about having a co-pilot that helps me think faster, get unstuck, and stay creative across work and life. I don’t use ChatGPT for everything, but when I do, it’s like talking to a really smart, fast-thinking sidekick who’s always ready to help.

I’m excited to see where this goes. As the tools evolve, I imagine I’ll find even more ways to work alongside AI—and I’ll keep sharing what I learn.

I’m also currently testing the new Tasks feature in ChatGPT. Right now, I’m using it to remind me about the weather for the next day, but I can already see a lot of potential in using it for recurring personal and work-related reminders.

And that’s why it’s become an everyday tool for me.
